Frequently Asked Questions
The Delta score is your overall impact number — a composite of the Planet, Health, and Money scores. A positive delta means your choice is trending better than your 7-day average. A negative delta means it's below your baseline. Think of it as a net score that rewards improvement over time, not perfection in isolation.
Each score is generated by an AI model that analyzes the image you submit and scores it on a scale of -100 to +100 across three dimensions:
- 🌍 Planet — environmental impact: estimated carbon footprint, packaging waste, production methods, and sourcing
- 💚 Health — nutritional quality: whole ingredients, processing level, nutrient density, and dietary balance
- 💰 Money — cost efficiency: value relative to nutritional content and portion size
These are AI estimates based on visual analysis, not lab tests. They're designed to give directional guidance, not exact measurements.
No. Daily Delta scores are AI-generated estimates for informational purposes only. They are not a substitute for medical, nutritional, or dietary advice from a qualified professional. Results may vary depending on the image quality, lighting, and content of your submission.
AI analysis depends heavily on image clarity and what's visible in the frame. Blurry photos, cluttered backgrounds, or partially visible items may produce less accurate results. For best results, take a clear photo in good lighting with the item centered in the frame. You can retake the scan at any time.
Yes. Your scan history, scores, and account data are stored in the cloud, not on your device. As long as you sign in with the same email and password, everything will be there when you log back in.
You can delete your account directly in the app by going to Settings → Delete account & data. This will permanently remove your account and all associated data. Alternatively, email [email protected] and we will process the deletion within 30 days.
We collect your account information (email address), the content you submit for analysis (photos, text descriptions, or barcode values), and the AI-generated scores and analysis results. We also collect limited technical metadata with each scan: app version, device OS and version, timezone, file size, and a SHA-256 hash of any submitted image.
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous app usage events (like which screens you visit) and Firebase Crashlytics to capture crash reports. We do not collect your location, contacts, or any sensitive device data beyond what is described above. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
Your images are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis and stored in our cloud infrastructure (Supabase). Before storage, every image is automatically processed by our privacy redaction pipeline: it uses AI image classification to detect whether any person is visible in the frame. If a person is detected, the image is pixelated across the full frame to obscure identifying features. If no person is detected, camera metadata (like GPS coordinates in EXIF data) is stripped. The processed image is stored as a derivative alongside your original. We do not sell your images, share them with advertisers, or use them to train external AI models.
On first use, the app asks whether you want to help improve Daily Delta by allowing anonymized scan data — specifically product names, barcodes, and category data — to be used to improve our nutrition database and scoring models. This consent is entirely optional. If you opt in, your personal identity, email address, and any images containing people are never included. You can change your choice at any time under Settings → Data & Privacy.
Free accounts get 5 scans per day. Your scan count resets at midnight. Pro subscribers get unlimited scans with no daily cap.
Daily Delta supports three input modes:
- Photo — take or upload a picture of a plated meal, grocery item, packaged food, restaurant receipt, or grocery receipt
- Barcode — point your camera at a UPC or EAN barcode on any food packaging; the app looks up the product in the USDA food database and scores it
- Text description — type a description of what you ate or bought (e.g. "double cheeseburger and fries" or "ribeye steak, 8oz")
The AI will do its best with whatever you submit. Photo results are most accurate with clear, well-lit images. Barcode results depend on the product being in the USDA FoodData Central database.
You've reached your daily scan limit for the free tier (5 scans/day). The button will become active again the next day when your count resets. Upgrading to Pro removes this limit entirely.

Not yet publicly. Daily Delta is currently available on Android via Play Store closed testing. The app is built on Flutter and targets both Android and iOS, but iOS availability is not yet confirmed for public release. Follow us for updates.
First, try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, try signing out and back in. If you're still having trouble, email [email protected] with a description of the issue and your device model. Screenshots are always helpful.
Daily Delta needs camera access to take photos directly, and photo library access to let you choose existing images for analysis. We only access photos you explicitly select — we do not scan or access your full photo library in the background.
